Step One: Clean out the Clutter
You will need to remove the excess clutter and unnecessary items which are stored in your basement. The floor can be inexpensively covered with a throw carpet or you can have indoor outdoor or a Berber style carpet installed inexpensively. You should add a dehumidifier to keep the air fresh and clear of excess moisture that can create mold or a damp smell.
Step Three: Create your Room
Once the walls and floor are prepared you can create you family room. The extra items that you may have had stored in the basement will serve as great family room furniture. Bookcases, extra sofas or over-stuffed chairs, pictures, lamps, etc can all be used to create a fun area that your friends and family will love. The carpeting will add texture and dimension to the space and a game table, ping pong table or other activity will give the room a fun flair. Set up a TV and a game system and you will see the room become a favorite area in the home.
