Laminate is very popular in flooring and cabinets, as it has the appearance of real wood. It is easier to clean and care for than real wood, and most cleaners for laminate can be found at local hardware stores or home improvement stores.
You will need:
- White vinegar
- Water
- Rubbing alcohol
- Dish detergent
- White rags
- Nail clippers
- Tweezers
- Acetone nail polish remover
- Bowl
Step 1: Add equal portions of the rubbing alcohol and vinegar as well as water into a bowl. Mix this together well and then add 5 drops of dish washing liquid to the water. Mix these together well with a rag until bubbles are seen but not frothy. This solution is good for not only cleaning laminate regularly, but also for removing most contaminants from the surface such as paint or wax.
Step 2: Dip the clean cloth into the water and apply to the area of the laminate that has paint on the surface. Rub the cloth briskly over the painted area using even strokes on your fingertips, and then allow it to dry. Check for any paint that remains after drying is complete. Do not use your fingernails to scrape at the surface of the laminate. If you must scrape at all, do so on the edge of the paint drop, which is normally easy to scratch through.
Step 3: Dip a rag into an acetone nail polish remover and then apply it to the laminate area with paint still remaining. Let this sit for about 5 minutes. Remove the nail polish remover with warm water and a new clean cloth. This can be repeated as many times as necessary to get the last portions of paint off the laminate surface.
Step 4: Check for any remaining paint. If there are still spots, use the end of a pair of nail clippers or tweezers to gently pry up the edge of the paint spot. Pull gently on the edge of the paint, and it will peel off of the surface of the laminate. Clean the area with the vinegar solution after the paint is removed. Paint that is not yet dry can be removed by using a warm wet cloth and wiping briskly over the area affected. Rinse out the rag and then go over the area again to ensure no remaining paint is left behind.
