Marinara sauce is an Italian red sauce commonly used on pasta but, it can also top hamburgers, cheese steaks, chicken, and pizza. Tomatoes, garlic, onions, spices, and herbs are the most frequently included ingredients in the many variations of this sauce. Cooks can look online and in cookbooks for recipes other than this one that will show them how to make marinara sauce. This recipe is quick, easy, and will yield four cups of sauce. Preparation time is approximately 15 minutes and cooking time is 30 minutes.
You will need:
- Two (2) 14.5 ounce cans stewed tomatoes
- One 6 ounce can tomato paste
- 4 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 6 tablespoons olive oil
- 1/3 cup finely diced onion
- ½ cup white wine
- Food processor
Step 1: Put tomatoes, tomato paste, minced garlic, chopped parsley, salt, pepper, and oregano into the food processor. Blend these ingredients until the mixture is smooth. For other variations of this recipe, look online and in books for additional ingredients.
Step 2: Saute the onion in the olive oil for two minutes in a large skillet on medium heat.
Step 3: Add the white wine and blended sauce made in step 1.
Step 4: Simmer and occasionally stir for a period of 30 minutes.
Step 5: Remove from the stove and place into a serving bowl. Serve with pasta or add to other dishes.
