Green bean casserole is a staple at most all holiday gatherings, and many families enjoy them at other times of the year as well. In order to make the best green bean casserole, you will need to decide on a few ingredients that can vary based on taste.
You will need:
- 1 Large can or 2 regular cans of green beans, French cut
- Oven safe Casserole dish with lid
- 2 small cans of your favorite ‘cream of’ soup (cream of mushroom)
- 1 package of crackers of your choice
- 1 small can of fried onions
- Oven
- Timer
- Large spoon
Step 1: Preheat the oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit while assembling the other ingredients. It is best to allow the oven to preheat for at least 10 minutes prior to baking the casserole. You will need to bake the casserole for a total of 35 minutes once completely assembled.
Step 2: Open all cans and have casserole dish ready. Drain the green beans so there is no liquid from the cans present, and then dump them into the casserole dish. Now add the cans of your cream of mushroom soup and stir with a large spoon.
Step 3: Crush the package of crackers and add into the mixture of green beans and soup. Stir until the mixture is no longer lumpy. You can also use a few whole crackers on top of the green bean mixture instead of mixing the package into the casserole.
Step 4: Arrange the fried onions on the top of the mixture and do not mix in. The classic appearance for the fried onions on top of the casserole is in a ring shape that encircles the entire outer edge of the casserole dish, and then a small heap in the center of the casserole. You can arrange the onions any way you choose, as this is your green bean casserole. Simply place the lid on the casserole dish and bake for the above mentioned time by setting the timer for 35 minutes.
Step 5: Remove the casserole from the oven, and allow cooling for at least 10 minutes prior to serving. When the casserole is completely done cooking, you will see the edges of the mixture have boiled and left residue on the sides of the dish. To serve, it is recommended that a large slotted spoon be used to dish out the casserole.
