The one thing most homeowners fret about when it comes to the exterior appearance of their homes, is the color of the grass. Nothing will make a home look less manicured than a brown or less than green lawn. There is a secret to getting green grass, even if you live in an area prone to drought.
You will need:
- 1 bag of grass fertilizer
- Water hose
- 2 eight ounce bottles of Grass B Green lawn paint
- 1 gallon household sprayer
- Seeder
Step 1: Mix the 2 eight ounce bottles of Grass B Green lawn paint in the household sprayer bottle. The product is safe for pets, children and all animals, and will dry within a few minutes of spraying. Fill the remainder of the gallon sprayer with water and replace the sprayer. Since each 8 ounce bottle treats up to 300 square feet, adjust the amount you need for your size lawn.
Step 2: Begin spraying your yard from the house out toward the street. Start spraying in short lines, from one side to the other, in 5 foot lengths. Complete one 5 foot by 5 foot area and then move on to the next area. The two bottles in a gallon sprayer will cover 600 square feet of lawn.
Step 3: Scoop out the bag of fertilizer according to the instructions, depending on how you will use it. Many fertilizers will require you to spread one cup over 3 square feet of lawn. You will need to use as much of your fertilizer as the bag requires for your size lawn. Load the fertilizer into the seeder and walk the seeder around the entire yard, or the areas that are the least healthy.
Step 4: Water the lawn thoroughly after applying the fertilizer. The grass will be green from the lawn paint, and will allow your lawn the time to naturally grow green while being fertilized. This can take anywhere from one week to one month, depending on your local weather conditions. It is best to sprinkle fertilizer prior to rain, in dry conditions so that watering will begin the fertilization process. The lawn paint is a permanent dye that is applied to the grass, and therefore will normally not fade. It is best to dye the lawn at the beginning of Spring and then at the end of Summer to have year round green grass.
