Humans are not the only ones who enjoy gifts. Pets love getting a special present from their owner. Some dogs sniff it out from across the room and bound over to see what treats await them. They may even open the gift themselves, creating quite a mess in the process. Instead of giving your pooch just one gift, create a gift basket of favorite goodies.
You will need:
- Large basket
- Rawhide chews
- Dog biscuits
- Dog cookies
- Squeaky dog toys
- Stuffed dog toys
- Dog clothing
- Bow
Step 1: Come up with a theme for the gift basket such as a holiday, dog birthday, Valentine’s Day, beloved sport, or hobby. Travel-themed baskets are perfect if a pet-friendly vacation is on the horizon. An organic-themed basket includes natural, healthy treats, toys, and organic clothing. You can even have an everyday theme and include all your pooch’s favorites.
Step 2: Purchase dog biscuits, rawhide chews, and toys. Whenever possible, choose treats that are natural and very healthy for dogs. Squeaky toys that cannot be ripped apart are best for avid chewers. Some soft toys feature a removable squeaker- these are great for when the noise becomes unbearable. Look for toys that the dog can chew comfortably. Buying a huge toy for a tiny dog is not a good idea because the pet may actually be afraid of it.
Step 3: Select one or more pieces of dog clothing in the appropriate size. T-shirts are great for summer, while sweatshirts, sweaters, and coats are good winter gear. Some dogs will even wear boots- test this footwear in the store with your dog.
Step 4: Find a store that makes cookies especially for dogs and pick up a few of these natural treats. Some cookies are cut into a special shape such as a bone or fire hydrant and decorated with icing. The local pet supply store may have a dog cookie bar where you can serve yourself.
Step 5: Gather the items that will go in the basket and purchase a basket large enough to hold them. Place the items in the basket and tie a bow around the top of the handle. Present the gift to your pooch and watch its tail wag in excitement.
